Tethered Balloon System

Main Tethered Balloon Flight Page

The Atmospheric Sciences department uses/shares the Tethered Balloon System from Space Studies department. To do a flight, see regulations in FAA Part 101 052813PM document. Below is a picture of the Tethered Balloon System.

Tethered Balloon charging procedures

The system is charged via a 720 NET3 AD charger. To charge the battery for the tethered system attach the positive and negative chords labeled “PWR OUT” to the positive and negative receivers of the battery and hold enter to begin the charging process. Once the system begins charging it will beep momentarily followed by displaying a charging timer, amperage, and voltage. Additionally, the alligator clamps labeled “PWR IN” allows for a receiver battery to be used with the charging station as median rather than the source for charging. See picture below for set up.
